first_imgSport Shorts The Fluke Masters Tournament, sponsored by the Community Fire Company, will be held on Aug. 9 at the Leonardo State Marina. There will be more than $12,000 in cash prizes, with the top prize going to the highest combined weight of five fish. First place is worth $5,625, followed by prizes of $3,375, $2,063 and $1,125 for second through fourth place (one prize per boat). If the 250-boat limit is not reached, winnings will be distributed as follows — 30 percent of the total entry fees for first prize, 18 percent for second, 11 percent for third, and 6 percent for fourth. Entrance fee is $75. In the event of a cancellation, the tournament will be held on Aug. 10. If it is canceled on Aug. 10, there will be a lottery drawing for the prizes. A mandatory captain’s meeting will be held at the Community Fire House on Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m., and the tournament will run from 6 a.m.-4 p.m. Entry commences at 6 a.m.; deposit entry slips with the committee boat at the outer red buoy of the marina. No fish will be weighed after 4 p.m. Any boat seen giving another boat fish will be disqualified. Any fish considered suspicious by the marine biologist will be disqualified from the tournament and the captain’s name will be given to the police for prosecution. The Jersey Intensity 10U/12U/14U/16U/18U girls’ softball teams will hold tryouts for the 2003/2004 seasons on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and Saturday, Aug. 9.
