Russia’s Vladimir Putin Inaugurates One of Europe’s Biggest Mosques

Rabat – Russian President, Vladimir Putin opened on Wednesday in Moscow what is now considered one of the largest mosques in the Europe.President Putin said during a speech he delivered on the occasion of the inauguration of the mosque that “this Mosque will become an extremely important spiritual center for Muslims in Moscow and the whole Russia.”Putin further declared the newly inaugurated Mosque in the country’s capital city “will be a source for education, spreading humanist ideas and the true values of Islam.” Moscow’s new Mosque was a 10-year construction project costing a reported $170 million (EUR 150M).Russia has a Muslim community of nearly 20 million people for whom the new Mosque will be a superior place of worship.The mosque counts with a turquoise-colored dome and can accommodate up to 10,000 Islam believers.The mosque was inaugurated in the presence of an important number of Muslim leaders among which Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdrogan, and the Palestinian President, Mahmud Abbas.The Russian leader is a strong opponent of terrorist groups, namely ISIS. He has condemned the nearly 2,000 Russians who support the extremist organization, saying that ISIS and its followers are “compromising a great world religion, compromising Islam, in order to sow hate”.
